I think its ok to explain vividly how to go about the measurements especially the calculation part of it. First, we are going to start with the head measurement, like I said in the main tutorial post, you can have a dummy of your size. So, I used my body measurements. NB: if you intend converting the dummy case to overalls or a boiler suit, remember to add extra inch for seam allowance. Lets get started! I am going to explain two sample measurements- the head and the leg.
Measuring the Head: measure the length and circumference of your head (see the picture). The length of my head( from the forehead to the chin) is 8inches and the circumference is 24inches.
Place the tape on the topmost end of the garment bag and measure out 8inches, mark the point with your tailor chalk- that's for the length. For the circumference- if 24inches is the circumference of my head, divide 24 by 2 and we have 12(remember there are two sides to the garment bag (the front and back)and we are working on one of the sides). So, whenever there is a “circumferential” measurement, we should divide the number by 2. Thus, we need to measure out 12 inches for the head(or better still, the face). When measuring, place the tape rule on the middle zipper and measure 6 inches away to the right, do same from the middle to the left(see picture) and mark each point using your tailor chalk. Now, trace and draw along the measurement marks of the length and circumference of the head to form the shape of a head.
Follow the above explanation to measure, calculate and draw the other parts of the body(except the leg) listed in number 3 of the main tutorial post- click here to view.
Measuring the Leg: measure, calculate and divide the number measured for the length and circumference of the thigh and leg as in the explanation above. However, instead of the usual placing of the tape on the middle zipper for the circumference, measure from the side edge towards the middle instead. For instance, if the circumference of my thigh is 22, dividing 22 by 2 will give you 11. So, placing the tape on the right side edge of the garment bag, measure 5 1/2 inches away towards the middle, mark the point. Do same for the left edge. Then trace along the measurement marks to form the shape of the leg.
I do hope this explanation is helpful a bit. However, if you still have difficulty in understanding this tutorial, do not hesitate to let me know. I will be glad to be of a help. Moreover, if you have anything to add to this tutorial, I honestly yearn for that because I love learning new things and I believe other readers of this tutorial would be grateful you did.
